About me

What I do

Whatever role I play for you, coaching will be at the heart of my approach. I believe passionately that giving you time to think and talk through your challenges – be they personal or operational, transactional or strategic – will make you a better leader, and a more balanced and fulfilled human being.

But my 18-year career as a corporate lawyer also allows me to tailor my support and be whatever you need from time to time – an adviser, facilitator, mentor, consultant or NED, or perhaps simply a sounding board.

I have worked with hundreds of entrepreneurs, executives and professionals at all stages of a business’s life cycle: whether you’re starting or selling, growing or restructuring, I get it.

I love client relationships that are deep, trusting and collaborative – that offer a mutually productive and rewarding experience.

I offer services in English or Welsh; I also speak French and Italian.

My story

Act 1 – The City

The first 11 years of my career were spent at Allen & Overy in London and Milan. I worked on plenty of big, international deals; but I also sought out roles that would broaden my business experience.

  • I supported the Senior and Managing Partners in the restructuring of the firm in the wake of the global financial crisis – I know what it is like to deal with crises and extreme situations.
  • In 2006, I spent two years as the HR Manager for the firm’s Trainees (all 240 of them) – and so my belief in the power of coaching was born.
  • I was seconded to advise the chairman and board of a listed company while it dealt with a hostile takeover bid from its CEO – a role that required a significant amount of integrity and discretion.

Act 2 - Wales

Being Welsh is a big part of my identity; fortunately, I was able to persuade my husband to leave East London to relocate to Cardiff, where we now live by the sea with our two sons.

From 2015 to 2020, I was a partner at Capital Law. I played a key part in the growth of the firm, building high-performing teams and relationships with great clients. I was identified as a leading individual in the Legal 500 2020, the only female corporate lawyer in Wales to make the cut.

Act 3 – Executive coaching and mentoring

In 2020, I became accredited as an ILM Level 7 Executive Coach and Mentor and set up my own business.

In addition to my work with senior leaders, I am Chair of the Football Association of Wales and a Judge in the Mental Health Review Tribunal for Wales.

My personal values are integrity, balance and generosity: my aim is that these underpin all aspects of my life.

I thoroughly enjoy the variety and autonomy that my portfolio career offers: when not working, I enjoy socialising with friends and family, hiking and the arts.

Alys has been an enabler to my understanding some of the more subtle aspects of leadership and the value that can be unlocked, not just for me, but for others and the business I work in too.
